Introduction

Hi, readers, and welcome to my grandmother blog. Grandfathers are welcome, too, of course. In fact all generations are welcome to read and comment. My idea for this blog is to talk about grandparenting, emphasizing grandmothers, and those who have made that happen - that is, our children and grandchildren. This is not meant to be a sappy, oozing sweetness blog, but some of what is both wonderful and difficult about your own experience of being a grandparent, of being a grandchild, and of being that middle generation of child/parent.
The 21st century brings some different realities for families, in job requirements that affect family life, in ideas of what it is to be a family, in education, in the nature and role of religion, in the way economics affects family life, in recognition of dangers to children from anywhere in their lives - family, school, religion, child related organizations, and public places. Threats and realities of war continue to be a severe problem for some, while not existent for others. Each of these is experienced personally by each human being. As a grandparent, watching your adult children, and their children - your grandchildren in the midst of all this, is a unique and very special opportunity and responsibility.
So, welcome and I look forward to speaking with you on grandparenting, and I especially hope to hear from grandmothers, as I am a grandmother, which came somewhat as a surprise to me - more of that later.
